Child Removed From Home Where Drugs Were Sold

On Monday law enforcement officials removed a young child from a home where two women were allegedly selling drugs.

Reports filed through the Lawrenceburg Police Department show that officers were dispatched to a home located at 911 Old Florence Road after drugs were located there during a routine home search by a parole officer.

The officer with the Tennessee Board of Probation and Parole alerted officers to the discovery around 10:20 a.m. He said that he had located a total of 28 grams of marijuana that had been packaged into 16 separate bags.

He said that the marijuana had been found concealed beneath a couch cushion in the living room, along with a half-full bottle of alcohol.

During the search, officers report finding several bottles of liquor and beer lying about the home, as well as partially smoked marijuana cigarettes, and marijuana stems and seeds.

Reports show that two juveniles, ages 2 and 15, were living at the home. Officers noted that, “There were a large amount of roaches and other insects in several rooms of the residence,” and that, “The entire residence appeared to be in severe disarray.” They determined that the home, “Was in no condition to have children living in it.”

The teen was not present at the time of the search, however the two year old was taken into the custody of the Department of Children’s Services. She was to be placed with a family member.

Resident Lavetta Rochelle Short, age 41, was arrested on charges of possession of marijuana for the purpose of resale and felony child neglect. Jazzmin Renee Wilson, age 19, was arrested on a child neglect count and was issued a citation, charging her with simple possession of marijuana.

Officers report that Wilson admitted that she smokes marijuana and meth. She told them she had last smoked marijuana the previous night and meth two nights before that.

While she was smoking marijuana in the back yard the previous night, she said her daughter was there with her.

Short reportedly admitted she had been selling marijuana out of her residence for approximately one month. She told officers that on several occasions she had seen Wilson and the fifteen-year-old smoke marijuana together.

Both Short and Wilson were scheduled a preliminary appearance in Lawrence County General Sessions Court on June 6, 2013.
